EcoWabi's Top 5 Eco-Friendly Vinegar Cleaner Recipes

INTRODUCTION:

There are many websites introducing how to use vinegar as a cleaner. Ecowabi picked 5 ways that seem to be the simplest methods and experimented to see how they worked in reality...

GOAL:

Learn the effects of vinegar as a cleaner and laundry softener.

1: Multi-Purpose Vinegar Cleaner

  • Simple Recipe: Mix 1 part of white distilled vinegar with 3 parts of water in a spray container.
  • Result: The smell of vinegar was not as strong as we thought. There was only a very subtle odor. We cleaned mirrors, counter tops and grease from the oven door with it. The vinegar cleaner worked great - just like a typical, conventional multi-purpose cleaners. So, why don't you choose vinegar to clean instead? It is much less expensive, lasts longer, and is environmentally friendly!

2: Toilet Bowl “Sparkler”

  • Simple Recipe: Pour a cup or more of diluted white distilled vinegar into the toilet bowl and let it sit overnight. Scrub well with the toilet brush and flush.
  • Result: Amazing! The toilet bowl is sparkling white and there is no smell of vinegar in the bathroom in the morning. What an easy way to clean the toilet bowl!

3: Window Cleaning

  • Simple Recipe: Clean your windows with newspaper soaked in 1 part white distilled vinegar to 4 parts warm water.
  • Result: It worked well, like a conventional, store-bought window cleaner. However, if there is heavy dirt on the window, it can be tough to get good results.

4: Softener For Tthe Laundry

  • Simple Recipe: Add about 1/4 cup white distilled vinegar to the last rinse.
  • Result: We were afraid that a strong vinegar smell would be transferred to wet/dry laundry. But there was absolutely no vinegar odor, and the softening effect was amazing. The towels were soft and pairs of jeans were not stiff! (We air dried the laundry for this experiment.)

5: Removing Scorch Marks From An Iron

  • Simple Recipe: Clean your iron with a cloth soaked in full-strength white distilled vinegar.
  • Result: It takes only a few seconds to clean! No more ruining your shirts!
